Orkut.comがじわじわと拡大している風を感じます。これは、インター
ネット上での幅広い人脈や出会いを生み出すツールと言えばよいので
しょうか。グーグルのエンジニアのひとりが作ったこのシステムが多く
の人のハートを捕らえています。
簡単に言うと、友達の紹介を通してサイトに登録し、自分とつながっ
ている人を通してさらに大きなトモダチの輪に参加できる仕組みです。
私はつい一週間ほど前に登録したのですが、登録した直後に知人から
ザクザクとトモダチメールが送られてきました。つまり、私がリアル
で知っている人がすでに登録していて、私が登録したことを知って
「繋がりましょう！」と声をかけてきてくださったということです。
そこに「知ってる人がすでにいる！」というのがまず新鮮な驚きでし
た。そして、そこから繋がりうる面白い人々の名前にびっくりします。
これ見てるだけで相当楽しくてはまってしまいそう。。。

Is this the same thing as "Friendster"? I think many people got hooked at the beginning to set it up, but once you set up your profile and made contacts with already registered friends, that's it... It gets just too much to maintain it.

But "so far," the point is that there are really cool people in the Orkut network compared to Friendster.
But I guess it will change as it expands the network though. It may end up the same as Friendster by the time it gets to the same size.
It is kind of ironical that as the size grows, the quality of the network goes down.
